The 15th European Youth Olympic Festival started in Baku on July 21. The first competitive day brought victory to the Belarusian team. In the weight category up to 55 kg, Greco-Roman wrestler Gleb Makarenko won a gold award. In the final bout, Gleb defeated the Georgian wrestler Romeo Beridze with a score of 6:1.
On July 20, the Belarusian sport delegation of the 15th summer European Youth Olympic Festival arrived at the competition venue - in Baku. The team flew in on a charter flight from Minsk National Airport. It includes not only athletes, but also coaches, doctors, the administrative staff and the young ambassador Anastasia Lesik.
On Friday evening on July 19, the Belarusian National Olympic Committee escorted the Belarusian sport delegation to the 15th summer European Youth Olympic Festival in Baku. The most numerous team of all the time participated in the festival -102 athletes listened and promised to justify high confidence.
The Executive Board of NOC Belarus was held on 10 July, where one of the most important issues was the approval of the composition of the Belarusian sports delegation at the 2019 summer European Youth Olympic Festival, which will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan. The Belarusian team includes 102 athletes.
Over the course of the 2nd European Games, that were held in Minsk from 21-30 July, 200 sets of medals were awarded in 15 sports. The team Belarus placed second
in the overall medal standings, it won a total of 69 medals: 24 gold ones, 16 silver ones and 29 bronze ones. Here’s the full list of medalists according to sports and disciplines.
On June 30, the Closing ceremony of the 2nd European Games took place at the Dynamo National Olympic stadium. The spectators were introduced to an emotional
show. They saw the extinguishing of the Flame of Peace and bid farewell to the Games’ mascot Lesik the Fox who promised with a glowing heart to stay forever in our hearts.
