First Christmas Hockey Forum held in NOC Belarus

On January 4, the first Christmas Hockey Forum took place at the headquarters of the NOC Belarus. More than 15 speakers from eight countries took part in it, and over 130 people attended this forum.


Participants discussed current issues of hockey development in Europe and all over the world. Training and education of gifted hockey players, the development of youth hockey in different countries, methods of players’ selection in professional teams were the key topics of the forum. For example, Aku Nieminen, IIHF Membership Development Manager from Finland, spoke about long-term athlete development and the pathway from young to professional athlete. Bedrich Scerban, Olympic bronze medalist 1992, spoke about VTM program, which helps young talented players. A separate theme was the creation, marketing and promotion of the new league – UHL. Aleksey Braga, CEO of the Ukrainian Hockey League, submitted this report.




After every speech, participants asked questions, shared their experience and opinions with others, but the most important – discover something new and adopt practices.



Vladimir Safonov, CEO of «Yunost» youth hockey school, as well as trainers Dmitry Zhuravsky and Sergey Zadorozhny represented Belarus at the forum.

Initiated by the BIHA, The Christmas Hockey Forum plans to become annual.

At the end of the conference, the participants went to the «Minsk-Arena» for the KHL match between Dinamo-Minsk and SKA.
