On 5 April the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus held a special event in honour of supporters of the Belarusian team at PyeongChang 2018.
Over 130 authors of the best motivating posts, photos and slogans in social media were invited to the NOC Belarus headquarters to be awarded and thanked in person by Belarus Olympians and their coaches.
The guests met with Olympic champions of Barcelona 1992 and Rome 1960 Dmitri Dovgalyonok (C-2 500m) and Sergey Makarenko (C-2 1000m), respectively, as well as two-time medalist in freestyle aerials Dmitri Dashinski (Nagano 1998 and Turin 2006), London 2012 bronze medalist and FIG Athletes’ Commission President Liubou Charkashyna. Belarus’ far famed athletes were excited to take part in the event. They explained how much backing from homeland mattered for an athlete and thanked for passionate support.
Following the awarding, in conclusion of the meeting, members of the Belarusian Olympic team at PyeongChang 2018 speed skaters Tatsiana Mikhailava and Vital Mikhailau, short tracker Maksim Siarheyeu and his coach Liudmila Siarheyeva, biathlon champion Dzinara Alimbekava also endorsed the words of thanks.
As the official part of the meeting ended, the visitors went sightseeing around the NOC Olympic Museum and Exhibition “History of the Olympic Movement in the Republic of Belarus”.
