PyeongChang 2018. Our Olympians: SPEED SKATING

TV channel Belarus 5 shot a video about speed skating in frames of its project “Our Olympians”.

The Belarusian Olympic speed skating team numbers 5 athletes:

1. Maryna Zuyeva
2. Ignat Golovatsiuk
3. Tatsiana Mikhailava
4. Vitali Mikhailau
5. Kseniya Sadouskaya

The short videos below feature Maryna Zuyeva and Ignat Golovatsiuk.

Maryna Zuyeva

Maryna Zuyeva’s sports career started with roller sport when she was 7. However, half a year later she quit it for speed skating.

She shows impressive results in this discipline, and that is what helped Maryna to make a decision to return to professional sports.

Scarcely had Zuyeva joined the national team, she took the lead role and obtained the Master of Sport of International Class title. She sets new national records and qualifies for her first Olympics.

In PyeongChang Maryna can try her best at the 1500m, 3000m, 5000m distances and mass start event.

Ignat Golovatsiuk

Ignat Golovatsiuk could have become an ice hockey player, but chose speed skating.

In 2016 he conquered the gold medal in 500m event at the Junior World Championship in the Chinese city of Changchun and set a new national record. It was the first success of the Belarusian speed skating in 34 years after Igor Zhelezovsky did it first in 1980s.

In 2017 Ignat renewed the speed skating record of Belarus and qualified for PyeongChang 2018 where he is supposed to take part in 500m and 100m heats.
