The achievements of the 20th Olympic Games champion in basketball have been inspiring entire generations of athletes for many years, presenting a story of courage, fortitude and unwavering faith in success, President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus Viktor Lukashenko stressed in his birthday greetings to retired Belarusian professional basketball player and coach Ivan Edeshko who turned 80.
“The victory of the Soviet Union basketball team at the Munich Olympics, as well as the bronze medal of the Montreal Games are the achievements that have forever entered the history of world and national sports. Together with your legendary teammates, being the author of the game-winning ‘golden pass' that brought a sensational triumph in the final match against the U.S. national team, you have proved that talent and hard work can overcome any obstacles and break the resistance of the strongest opponents,” the message of greetings reads.
The head of the NOC of Belarus wished Ivan Edeshko strong health, happiness and wellbeing.
