Flame lighting ceremony for 2024 Summer Olympics

A ceremony to light the flame of the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad, which will be held in Paris from 26 July to 11 August, took place in Ancient Olympia, Greece.

The Olympic torch relay will be running across Greece for 11 days. Then, on 26 April, the torch will arrive in Athens where it will be handed over to the Paris 2024 organizing committee at Panathenaic Stadium. It will then depart for France on board a three-masted ship, the Belem, which will arrive in Marseille on 8 May.

The official flam lighting ceremony on Tuesday was attended by Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou, IOC President Thomas Bach, President of the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee Tony Estanguet, French Minister for Sport and the Olympic and Paralympic Games Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo and President of the Hellenic NOC, EOC President and IOC member Spyros Capralos.
