Gold medals for Belarusian weightlifters in Havana

The Cuban capital, Havana, is hosting the Weightlifting Grand Prix, with Belarusian athletes showing great results.

Petr Asayonak clinched the 89kg gold with the total of 368kg (162kg+206kg). According to the International Weightlifting Federation, the result puts the athlete in the top 10 in the Paris rankings.

Silver went to Nathan Damron of the United States (a total of 365kg). Rashid Aljumaili from Iraq finished third with his total effort of 361kg.

Belarus’ Siuzanna Valodzka clinched the 71kg silver with her total of 242kg (108kg+134kg). Angie Palacios from Ecuador set a world record of 121kg in the snatch to make the total of 261kg.

Earlier, Belarus’ Dziyana Maiseyevich claimed the 64kg gold with the total of 210kg.

2016 Rio Olympics silver medalist Darya Naumava won silver at the Russian Weightlifting Championships in Novy Urengoy. Belarus’ Uladzimir Zaitsau claimed the 81kg champion title in Russia with the total of 341kg.
