  From June 22nd till June 24th, 2012 numerous events dedicated to the International Olympic Day were taking place in Grodno and the Grodno region.

  The festive events within the framework of the International Olympic Day started with an official opening ceremony of the competitions.

  An official opening ceremony was held by the monument of Olympic glory of the Grodno region. This architectural composition is made of granite and features a goddess of Victory Nika with a laurel wreath in her hands and symbolic medals around with names of champions and prize-winners of the Olympic Games from the Grodno region.

  The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of 19 teams of the Grodno region districts,  participants of the Games of the XXX Olympiad in London (Andrei Kazak, Bubnovich Vitali, Papko Aksana) and the Games of XIV Paralympiad (Shavel Natalya, Drozdova Elena) as well as famous sport veterans such as Volchetskaya Elena (Tokyo Olympic Games Champion in artistic gymnastics) and Kurchak Nikolai, first Olympic judge  of the Grodno region at the Olympic Games in Moscow and many others.

  Within the framework of the International Olympic Day programs the Representative office of the NOC Belarus in the Grodno region along with the Administration of physical culture, sport and tourism of the Grodno regional executive committee honored best athletes, physical culture and sport veterans, partners of the NOC Belarus, representatives of the sport sphere that actively promote the Olympic movement and healthy life style.

  All the athletes of the Grodno region that are going to participate in the Games of the XXX Olympiad in London have received financial assistance from the NOC Belarus Representative office in the Grodno region.

  This year sport competitions gathered more than 700 participants that competed in 9 sports: mini football, volleyball, streetball, swimming, athletics, kettlebell, table tennis.

  The end of the competitions was crowned by the awarding ceremony. The NOC Belarus Representative office in the Grodno region prepared special memorable gifts for the participants of the event, all kinds of souvenirs with the NOC Belarus symbols and informational posters “Let’s support our athletes!”.

  Besides, the local TV was broadcasting special Olympic videos on the history of the Olympic Games as well as others featuring athletes from the Grodno region that are going to take part in the London-2012 Olympic Games. 

  These promotional videos have been broadcasted not only on the local TV but also on big screens set up all over the city.
