Belarusian athletes took part in the international wrestling tournament Zagreb Open 2024 in the capital of Croatia.
Zagreb Open is the first event of 2024, which makes part of the United World Wrestling ranking series.
Belarusian wrestler Abubakar Khaslakhanau won the 97kg goal defeating Georgia’s Giorgi Katsanashvili, Nikoloz Kakhelashvili of Italy, Aleksandar Stjepanetic of Sweden and Azerbaijani Murad Ahmadiyev. In the final Abubakar Khaslakhanau proved stronger than Arvi Savolainen of Finland, who saw off Belarus’ Pavel Glinchuk in the semifinal.
The Belarusian team won a total of four medals in Zagreb. Maksim Stupakevichclinched silver in the Greco-Roman 55kg weight category, losing to Adem Uzun from Turkiye in the final. In the women's 62kg weight category, Belarus’ Veranika Ivanova won bronze, defeating Canada's Ana Godinez.
The tournament featured over 500 athletes from 50 countries.
