Paris 2024: Trushkina through to Women's C-1 200m semifinal

Belarusian canoe sprinters continue their run at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics.

On 8 August Belarus’ Yuliya Trushkina advanced to the Women's C-1 200m semifinal at the Vaires-sur-Marne Canal. A day earlier, Belarus’ Uladzislau Kravets reached the Men's K-1 1000m semifinal here.

In Preliminary Heat 2 Yuliya Trushkina faced athletes from Chile, Colombia, China, the USA, Moldova and Ukraine.

The Belarusian clocked 46.15, finishing second, behind Nevin Harrison of the United States.

This season Yuliya Trushkina secured victory in this discipline at the 2024 Canoe Sprint European Olympic Qualifier and clinched bronze at the 2024 ECA Canoe Sprint European Championships in Hungary.

The Belarusian shared her impressions after the race.

“Some point in the race I caught myself thinking that I was doing unnecessary steering, but then I realized that everything was going well and I was going confidently to the finish. The main thing is that I accomplished my goal for today and qualified for the semifinal. I will do my best,” Yuliya Trushkina said.

In the next few days Team Belarus will compete in freestyle wrestling, weightlifting and canoe sprint.

Wrestler Mahamedkhabib Kadzimahamedau, silver medalist of the Tokyo Games, will hit the mat of the Champ de Mars Arena in the 74kg on 9 August. Weightlifter Siuzanna Valodzka will try her luck at the Paris du Sud Arena (Paris Expo) in the Women’s 71kg. She will face competitors from the USA, France, Romania and Ecuador.
