Abubakar Khaslakhanau purposefully trained for the Paris Olympics. At the Champ-de-Mars Arena, the Belarusian gained a convincing victory over Georgia’s Roberti Kobliashvili in 1/8 final. Abubakar Khaslakhanau edged the opponent 1-0 in the first three-minute period and secured his advantage in the second period to clinch a convincing victory, 9-1.

The Belarusian faced Egypt’s Muhamed Gabr in the quarterfinal bout. Abubakar's opponent took the lead due to greater activity 2-1.
Khaslakhanau tried again to undertake a turn-over move but could not complete it. On the contrary, he soon missed the attack and lost to Gabr.

Head coach Viktor Sosunovsky shared his opinion about Abubakar Khaslakhanau’s bouts:

“In the quarterfinal bout against the Egyptian wrestler, referees committed an obvious error. If the opponent's point is canceled, it is necessary to either send him to the ground position or give the point to the other side. Nothing has been changed and it is unlikely to be reconsidered. We will wait for the evening bout between the Egyptian and Iranian wrestlers,” Viktor Sosunovsky said. “We did better in the first bout. Abubakar was able to produce a series of holds against Georgia’s Kobliashvili and took a confident victory.”

On 7 August, Belarus’ taekwondo fighter Georgi Gurtsiev will compete in the 58kg event, while Uladzislau Kravets will kick off his 1000m kayak run.
