PyeongChang 2018. Our Olympians: BIATHLON

TV channel Belarus 5 shot a video about biathlon in frames of its project “Our Olympians”. 

The Belarusian Olympic biathlon team numbers 10 athletes:

The short videos below feature Darya Domracheva, Nadzeya Skardzina, Iryna Kryuko, Uladzimir Chapelin and Dzinara Alimbekava. 

Darya Domracveva 

The three-time Olympic champion of Sochi 2014 and bronze medalist of Vancouver 2010. 

Domracheva became the first female biathlete to have won three Olympic gold awards throughout a week. 

Nadzeya Skardzina 

Until 19 she lived and trained in Russia, but as a biathlete she succeed in Belarus. 

Nadzeya Skardzina debuted at the World Cup 11 years ago. Since then she has become a six-time medalist in individual races. 

During the 2013-2014 season she set the unique world record: Nadzeya passed through 22 shooting ranges without a miss. None of men or women can excel such an achievement. 

Her main victory is considered a bronze medal of the individual race at Sochi 2014. 

Uladzimir Chapelin 

Real magnet for bronze awards. Four times he was fourth at the World Championships among juniors. 

PyeongChang 2018 will be Chapelin’s second Olympics. Uladzimir’s best result at Sochi 2014 was 29th position. 

Iryna Kryuko 

Came in biathlon at the age of 12, represents the biathlon school of Novopolotsk. 

It was uncommon to hear Iryna’s name in the world mass media until 2017. Last year Iryna Kryuko managed to win the silver medal in mass start at the World Cup third stage in the French city of Annecy. 

PyeongChang 2018 will be her Olympic debut. 

Dzinara Alimbekava 

Dzinara was born in 1996 in Kazakhstan. When she was 3 she moved to Belarus. At the age of 11 she started her sports career in cross-country skiing. 

In 2011 Dzinara was invited to join the Belarusian youth biathlon team and at a time she won a number of the republican junior competitions. 

In 2015 Dzinara Alimbekava scored the gold medal in relay of the home World Championship among juniors. 

PyeongChang 2018 will also be a debut for Dzinara.
