Belarus’ world number one Aryna Sabalenka came back to defeat Russia’s World No.107 Polina Kudermetova 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 to secure her Brisbane title.
Sabalenka’s opponent showed strong resistance, but made a lot of mistakes in the end. Sabalenka seized the initiative, adding her offensive and raised an important trophy in the new season.
Last year Aryna Sabalenka reached the Brisbane final, finishing runner-up to Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina, 0-6, 3-6.
The event was a major rehearsal for the world number one ahead of the first Grand Slam tournament of the season, the Australian Open, which will take place in Melbourne on 12-26 January.
"I definitely feel my game pretty well. Mentally, physically I'll be ready to go at the Australian Open. Really happy with the way the week went. Having this trophy going to the major, it's really important," Aryna Sabalenka said.
Aryna Sabalenka won the Australian Open in 2023 and 2024.
Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko congratulated the world number one on the Brisbane victory.
