Belarus’ kayaker Aleh Yurenia took his second gold medal during stage 3 of the World Cup in Belgrade.

In K-1 5000m he overtook Rene Poulsen from Denmark, who finished just a second and a half at the back of Yurenia. A bronze went to French Cyrille Karre.

Day 1 of the World Cup on 3 June was marked by the first gold of Yurenia in K-1 1000m, where Poulsen was second as well.

Volha Klimava from Belarus crossed the finish line in women’s C-1 5000m first in 26.37,5min, having left behind Canadian Laurence Vincent-Lapointe with a silver medal and Magda Stanna from Poland with a bronze.

Belarus’ Elena Nozdreva and Kamila Bobr were triumphant in C-2 500m with a result of 2.05,38min. Their teammates Volha Klimava and Nadzeya Makarchanka finished third, the Hungarian duet clinched silver.

In C-1 200m Nozdreva was awarded a silver medal, Kamila Bobr was fourth. Artsem Kozyr was second in the same men’s discipline, Czech Martin Fuksa became the winner.  

The day before the Belarusian canoeists and kayakers conquered three gold awards. In K-1 1000 Aleh Yurenia got victorious, while Volha Khudzenka covered 500-m first distance in the women’s event. Nozdreva was first in C-1 500m. Belarusian canoeist Maksim Piatrou did not finish in the 5000-m final programme, Daryia Baicheuskaya missed K-1 at all.

Overall, Belarus won 7 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medals in Belgrade.

The 2017 ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup 3 served as an indicator of the Belarusians’ worth ahead of the main starts of the season – the European Championship in Bulgarian Plovdiv (10-17 July) and the World Championship in Czech Racice (21-28 August).
