Yahor Sharamkou wins Baku World Cup Floor Exercise final

The Belarusian athlete got the highest score (14.600) among eight finalists. Kazakhstan's Milad Karimi (14.300) placed second and Ukraine’s Nazar Chepurnyi (13.633) came third.

A year ago, at the World Cup stage in Baku, Yahor Sharamkou also won the Floor Exercise. In addition to that, he clinched bronze in the vault final.

Alena Tsitavets was triumphant in the uneven parallel bars event scoring 13.400 points in the final.

Slovenia’s Lucija Hribar came second with 13.233 points. She was followed by Japan’s Ayu Tokutsugi with 13.200 points.

“Frankly speaking, I did not expect such a successful performance and was pleasantly surprised. I knew that if I did everything right in the floor exercise, I would be able to win a medal due the complexity of my routine. As for the vault, after the qualification I realized that I was capable of getting on the podium. We prepared well for the World Cup, we held two training camps in Staiki. It is nice that our hard work brought results. I had to partially redo the routine due to the new cycle, new rules. I wanted to get a better understanding during the competitions where I stood compared to peers, whether it would work out or not, whether I would have to make my routine more complicated or vice versa - it was not easy. To be honest, during the first final, I even forgot that today is 8 March. After the competition, my family reminded me that it was a wonderful holiday gift on my part,” Yahor Sharamkou said in an interview with the Belarusian Gymnastics Association.
