Belarus’ largest indoor sports center Minsk Arena was put into operation on 30 January 2010. It took almost five years to build one of the major symbols of the Belarusian capital. The 15,000-capacity arena opened its doors after the velodrome and skating stadium, thus completing the project to develop a modern sports cluster meeting world-class standards.
Over the years Minsk Arena has hosted many sport events, including the KHL and IIHF ice hockey tournaments, and concerts of world pop stars. The arena was also used as a shooting set for the Russian movie Legend No.17.
Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has visited Minsk Arena many times:
“Any sovereign and independent state should create symbols of its independence and sovereignty. Such things have always cost a lot. It is not about money, however. Health is above everything. I am sure this is the facility that will give pride to our nation. We, the Belarusians, can say that we are able to create such things with our own hands,” head of state Aleksandr Lukashenko said during the Minsk Arena opening ceremony.
The grand final concert of the Marathon of Unity campaign, which united the entire Belarus, was also a great success in the sold-out Minsk Arena.
The NOC of Belarus extends greetings to the staff of Minsk Arena as the center marks its anniversary and wishes capacity crowds, loud applause, record results and unforgettable emotions from each competition!
May the arena always be full of energy, witnessing many more glorious victories!
