Two-time silver medalist of the Olympic Games in London and winner of the Olympic bronze in Rio de Janeiro Aliaksandra Herasimenia gave a clinic for young swimmers at the Gomel Palace of Water Sports.
The athlete said that she spent the Christmas holiday season in Gomel and decided to use the opportunity to hold classes for local children. “Such meetings inspire and encourage kids to further improvement and self-fulfillment. I will do my best to get them interested. Perhaps, these classes will help those thinking about their future to make the choice in favor of sport,” said Aliaksandra Herasimenia.
The athlete said she has no recipe for Olympic success. She, however, has a few rules she tries to stick to: believe in yourself and your success, give-it-all during training, listen to the coach who leads to the victory.
Aliaksandra Herasimenia also shared her plans regarding the 2020 Summer Olympic Games. “I would like to take part in the Olympics. I cannot, however, make plans for such a faraway future. Everything will depend on the form I will have and whether I will be able to compete with other swimmers,” she said.
Every participant of the master class got an autograph from the Belarusian swimmer. Ahead of the training session young athletes could ask their questions during an improvised press conference. Kids were interested in the swimmer's favorite sweets and the preferred swimming style, and also the countries Aliaksandra Herasimenia has so far been able to visit.
Aliaksandra Herasimenia shared her intention to hold free clinics for Belarusian school children through her official page on Facebook ahead of Christmas. The first master class was held in the Gomel Palace of Water Sports. Aliaksandra Herasimenia is expected to hold another clinic in Svetlogorsk on 9 January and will travel to Grodno Oblast on 10 January.
Honored master of sport Aliaksandra Herasimenia opened a swimming club some time ago. Under the supervision of qualified specialists and the athlete herself, anyone can learn basic swimming techniques to feel safe in the water or improve their performance in different swimming styles.
Aliaksandra Herasimenia is a bronze medalist of the Olympic Games 2016, a winner of gold medals at the European and world championships, a many-time champion of the Universiade (2009, 2011, 2013). The honored master of sport performs in freestyle, backstroke and butterfly styles.
