Belarus, Russia’s Yakutia building momentum in sports cooperation

President of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus Viktor Lukashenko held a meeting in Minsk with Head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Aisen Nikolayev.

The head of the NOC noted that relations with this large Russian region, including in sports, are developing dynamically.

“It seems like only yesterday we were visiting you, yet so much time has passed. We remember Yakutsk warmly, your hospitality and your beautiful land. Many of us saw the republic for the first time and were deeply impressed. I am sure Belarusians will receive the same warm welcome on their next visit. Vladimir Maksimov, head of the Children of Asia Games International Committee, works actively with the Belarusian side, often joins events here and can tell you more about Belarus. I am glad you found time, despite your busy schedule in Minsk, to visit the National Olympic Committee of Belarus,” Viktor Lukashenko said.

Aisen Nikolayev highlighted the strong partnership between Belarus and Yakutia built over 30 years. The two sides cooperate actively in trade, the economy, industry, humanitarian affairs and sports, and their joint projects contribute to the republic’s development.

“Thanks to you, Viktor Aleksandrovich, we have been able to significantly expand cooperation in the field of sports between the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and the Republic of Belarus. In 2024, your team performed excellently at the Children of Asia Games. I am confident that you will be able to show excellent results at future competitions as well. Belarusian athletes often take part in competitions in our region, for example in shooting, and always stand out for their good preparation and strong results,” Aisen Nikolayev noted.

The meeting was attended by Vladimir Maksimov, head of the Children of Asia Games International Committee, and representatives of the Administration of the Government of the Republic of Sakha. During their visit, the guests toured the museum exposition of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus and learned about the main achievements of Belarusian sport.

Following the meeting, the two sides expressed their intention to continue close cooperation in the field of sports and to develop relations in other spheres.
