2026 World Judo Championships kick off in Baku with opening ceremony

Viktor Lukashenko, head of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus, attended the opening ceremony of the 2026 IJF World Senior Judo Championships, which took place at the National Gymnastics Arena in Baku in the presence of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

Following the formal opening, declared by President of the International Judo Federation Marius Vizer, the event continued with an artistic program. Colorful compositions celebrating Azerbaijan’s rich cultural heritage and ancient traditions were performed.

The world sporting forum is held in the Azerbaijani capital from 4 to 11 October. The tournament has brought together more than 600 athletes from 93 countries. Belarus is represented at the 2026 World Judo Championships by four athletes.
