Belarusian biathlete Nadezhda Skardino, who finished first in the pursuit, became European champion, BelTA has learned.

Belarus number one was 5th at the start line of the 10km pursuit, 38 seconds behind the leader Nadine Horchler of Germany. However, everything changed after the first shooting in the prone position: Skardino shot clean, while her contenders had to ski penalty loops. Nadezhda shot clean during the opening three stages of the event to build a 43-second advantage over her closest rival.
Skardino missed two shots during the final stage of the event. Despite having to complete penalty loops, Skardino was able to take the gold in 30min 1.7sec. Karolin Horchler of Germany claimed the silver medal (+7,4 sec.; 2 penalties), while Norway’s Ingrid Tandrevold captured the bronze medal(+14 1sec.; 3).

The other Belarusian biathletes were far behind the leaders: 30.Dinara Alimbekova (+3min. 27,9 sec.; 4), 33. Maria Panfilova (+4 min. 06,6sec; 6), 37 - Kristina Ilchenko (+4min. 29,7sec.; 8).
The men's 12.5km pursuit event is to take place later. 5 out of 60 competitors will represent Belarus: Viktor Krivko (10th at the start line), Sergei Bocharnikov (11), Alexander Dorozhko (18), Yuryi Liadov (19), Dmitry Abashev (25).
The Championships will draw to a close on February 28 with the women’s 12.5km and men’s 15km mass start events.
