Today’s night, on August 6, the Belarusian sports delegation took part in the Opening Ceremony of the Games of the XXXI Olympiad Rio 2016 in Maracana Stadium.

The National Team at the parade included those teams who had already arrived in Rio: boxing, fencing, tennis, judo, cycling, synchronized swimming, athletics, swimming, and table tennis delegates. Marakana saw the Belarusian legends on its stage – the Olympic Champions Max Mirnyi and Sergei Martynov.

The winner of World and European cycling championships Vasil Kiryienka was the flagbearer of the National Team.
Once Maracana could accommodate up to 200.000 spectators. After reconstruction its capacity decreased down to 79.000. It will also host some football tournaments final games and the Closing Ceremony.
The Ceremony was staged by famous Brazilian director Fernando Meirelles, a nominee for Oscar award (City of God, 2002).

The Torch relay's finish (20.000 km) was marked by the Olympic flame lightning ceremony.
