Belarus’ NOC turns 33!

The National Olympic Committee of the BSSR was founded on this day 33 years ago. Later it received the name of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus.

Two years later, the NOC of Belarus became a full member of the international Olympic family at the 101st session of the International Olympic Committee held in Monaco on 21-24 September 1993. The Republic of Belarus received the right to send its national team to the Olympic Games.

Vladimir Ryzhenkov was the first president of the Belarusian NOC (1945-1996).

In 1997, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko took charge of the NOC of Belarus and led it for 24 years.

In 2021, Viktor Lukashenko was elected as the new head of the sports organization. He is the third President of the NOC of Belarus.

In November 2013, a new modern headquarters of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus (pictured) was put into operation. It has become a true home and temple of Belarusian sports.

Over these 33 years, Belarusian athletes have competed in 15 Olympic Games – 8 Winter Games and 7 Summer Games. They won 105 medals: 21 gold, 37 silver and 47 bronze.

Since the founding of the Olympic Committee, the country’s sports infrastructure has improved significantly. There are more than 23,000 sports facilities in Belarus.
