Sabalenka wins third Wuhan title

Belarus’ World No.2 Aryna Sabalenka completed a historic three-peat at the Wuhan Open 2024 after defeating No.7 Zheng Qinwen of China, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 in the final on Sunday.

The match lasted for two hours and 40 minutes. 

On her way to the final the Belarusian saw off Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic, 6-4, 6-4, defeated Kazakhstan’s world number 35 Yulia Putintseva 1-6, 6-4, 6-0, dismissed world number 27 Magdalena Frech of Poland, 6-2, 6-2 and battled through World No.4 Coco Gauff of the United States, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Aryna Sabalenka became the Wuhan Open three-time champion, winning the two previous events in 2018 and 2019. She earned 1,000 points and $525,100. Wuhan is Sabalenka's 17th WTA Tour title.
