
Belarusian athletes have won one silver and two bronze medals at the start of the 2026 European Weightlifting Championships in Batumi, Georgia.
In the women’s -63kg category, Alina Shchapanava secured second place with a total of 218kg. Dziyana Maiseyevich claimed bronze with 217kg.
Sarah Davies of the UK won gold, beating the Belarusian athletes by just one kilogram – she finished with 219kg in the combined total.
In the men’s -71kg category, Belarusian Yahor Papou became a bronze medalist. He lifted 328kg in total across two events to secure the bronze medal. A successful third attempt in the clean and jerk (183kg) also earned him a small silver medal. The winner was Yusuf Fehmi Genc of Türkiye with 332kg.
The European Weightlifting Championships in Batumi will run through 26 April.
